Dear Sugar, It’s Not You, It’s Me ~ Okay, It’s Really You
… and so ended my love affair with sugar.
A few weeks ago I wrote a post about giving up sugar. I had been feeling really tired and sluggish and not my normal cheerful self so my naturopath recommended that I try giving up sugar for a while. Well I am sad to say, IT WORKED!
Sad? Yes, in some ways I am, because bad for you or not, nothing beats an amazing chocolate bar or the perfect slice of coconut cream pie, or a big scoop of gellato. I LOVE sugar.
It is fascinating, though, when you start experimenting on yourself. The idea that sugar is not good for you is nothing new. Aside from the whole it gives you cavities spiel that the dentist gives you, I knew that there were other adverse side effects and that I was experiencing them, but I didn’t want to do anything about it. Actually I hoped they would just go away.
I can say that just a few weeks with out sugar really has changed the way that I feel. I have more energy, my attitude is sunnier, my nose isn’t stuffy all of the time, and my headaches have diminished almost to the point of being gone. And in case I thought the sugar and headache thing wasn’t related I did have some chocolate and wine one night and the darn headache was back with a vengeance.
There is not a single magic cure all for any ailment that you have, but I can tell you from personal experience that what you eat, has a profound effect on how you feel. I know how hard those changes can be, but give them a shot. The upside is more than worth it.
