What Is Your Morning Ritual?

How do you wake up each morning? Do you fly out of bed stressed and late and madly dash around the house trying to get yourself and the kids out of the door? Or, do you get up just a bit earlier and take a few minutes for yourself before starting your day?
Your morning ritual sets the tone for your entire day. It doesn’t have to be long and involved, but it should be something that makes you happy and energizes you for the day. It can be something as simple as taking 60 seconds before getting out of bed to list all of the things that you appreciate in your life.
I am an early riser. I get up at 5am during the week and love that hour and a half that I have before the kids get up. On Tuesdays and Thursdays I go to the gym which always gets me pumped up for the day. The other three days I take a few minutes to read , pick up around the house and then get a head start on emails and work projects. I used to get up and go straight to the computer but have found that I just end up on a treadmill and find myself sucked into the Internet vortex. So I try to do something else first and then when I do log on I work on a project or prep for an appointment. Something that takes uninterrupted time.
One of my other favorite morning rituals is the mommy snuggle fest. Once the boys are up and before we head out the door we all snuggle up on the couch for a few minutes which always makes me smile.
Something that makes waking up more relaxing for me is to write down my to do’s the night before. At the end of each day right before I go to bed I write down everything that I would like to accomplish the next day. It allows me to mentally let go of it so that I can sleep and then when I get up I am free to focus on other things rather than worrying about forgetting something.
So pay attention this week to how you start your day. Change up your ritual and see how it affects the rest of your day.
