What It Really Takes To Be Successful (Don’t EVER Tell My Boys That I Wrote This!)

At the risk of this backfiring on me should Alex and Ryan ever read this, I want to share with you an amazing story of success.

Gary, my husband, is a manufacturers’s rep for various consumer electronics lines.  Picture things like blue tooth headsets, GPS units, wall mounts for TV’s, head phones, all sorts of things like that.  He had dinner with a new client last week with one of the most amazing and inspirational stories that I have ever heard.

During dinner they got on the subject of having a college education and weather or not it is necessary for success later in life.   The answer may surprise you.

This guy owns the company and it turns out that he is both Dyslexic and Autistic so getting a college education in many ways was not an option for him because his brain just does not function that way.  But what he kicks butt at is taking lots of notes and working hard on something that he is passionate about.

The result?  A company that makes products priced from 7cents to $56.  They do $10,000,000 in sales a year (that is one heck of a lot of sales at those price points) AND they operate at a 60% profit.  Amazing!!!!

So let yourself off the hook.  Weather it’s a college education, the right upbringing or anything else in your life that makes you ‘not worthy’ of success.  The reality is, none of it matters.  Stop focusing on what you lack and make the decision today to focus your energy wholeheartedly on your goal.  You might just be surprised at what you can accomplish.

    So true, Nicole.

Awhile back I read a great article that talked about how many of the most financially successful people in the country do not have college degrees. I don’t have the stats in front of me, but if memory serves there were more who didn’t, than did.

The point isn’t really whether or not you did or didn’t go to college, but rather that there is no ONE “right” formula for being successful.

We each get define what “success” means to us, and the paths we take to get there are unique.

Your post reminds me of a great quote: “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” ~ Theodore Roosevelt
