Is It Better To Be Profound Or Honest?

Call it writers block / call it Spring Fever, but I have been procrastinating on this blog post for hours (read: 2 days). I keep feeling like I should be posting something really deep and profound and I’ve gotta be honest, I just don’t have it in me today.
Which begs the question ~ is it better to be profound or honest?
There is a time for deep and insightful prose, but the reality is that simple, honest straightforward communication can be just what the doctor ordered.
Today, in all honesty, I want to be playing out in the sun that has finally shown up in the Pacific Northwest rather than working. However, there are still things that I need to get done at work.
Isn’t that true for so many of us? Even if you really love what you do, wouldn’t it be more fun to be out playing?
Here’s my trick for having it all:
~ List out the top 5 things that you HAVE to do in order to make your work day successful
~ Set the timer for 1 hour for now and commit to getting it all done in the next hour
You may be looking at your list thinking that there isn’t any way you can get everything done in an hour. You can get more done than you realize if you are focused and on track. It is amazing how much our mind wanders as we are doing tasks. Giving yourself a time limit will get you laser focused on getting things done and it will also let you see the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s more motivating for me to know that I will still have play time left if I just bang out my work now.
So try it today, or the next time you just aren’t ‘feeling it’ at work and see if you CAN get it a little work and a little play. 🙂

Tomorrow is the 4th. This is your reminder – it’s okay to take time off. Just because technology allows us to work anytime, anywhere doesn’t mean you should. Sometimes the most productive thing you can do, is to do nothing productive at all. Enjoy the day and be present. To your success! Nicole

I’ll admit it, I’m not great at asking for help. Even when I know I need it. There are a variety of reason I struggle with asking: I’m busy and taking a step back to asses what I can outsource feels like one more task I don’t have time for. The task is something I’m…
