Is Success Always Some Milestone Down The Road, Or Right Here And Now?

It’s been a few weeks since I wrote a blog post.  There have been so many exciting things going on that I can’t wait to share with you.  Lots of travel, new business ventures to help you be successful AND have a life and a whole new look coming for the blog courtesy of the fabulous Sabine Messner.

Today’s post, though, is about putting off tomorrow what you could and SHOULD be doing today.

As I was getting  ready this morning I caught myself thinking that “next summer I will take more time off with the boys.  This summer I really need to work extra hard to get ahead, but next summer will be different.”  Ever had a thought like that?  Ever had a thought like that repeatedly only to have nothing change?

Success and the perks that come with success, like taking time off in the middle of the week to have fun with your family is always presented as something to strive for.  Something to enjoy down the road.  But have you ever noticed that you never really seem to get any closer to your goal?  It’s always next week, next month, next year things will be different?

Why can’t they be different today?

Today I decided to take the day off with the boys and we had a great time. We went to the park, had nerf gun fights and just enjoyed being together.  The smile on their faces when I told them that we were going to have a stay home day versus a camp day was priceless.

Maybe you can’t take the whole summer off, but you could take a day.  One day of really focused fun time actually means more to your family than weeks of half assed days where you are not really focused and paying attention.

So make a commitment to no longer put off until tomorrow what you can do today.  Especially when it comes to really enjoying your family and doing the things that matter most.  The business will always be there, but the time with your family is precious. Treat it as such.

      Hi Carol,

So glad that it stuck a nerve for you too! I must admit that I spend way too much time planning for all of the fun that I am going to have in the future. I say it’s time we all had fun today!

Were you reading my mind? And, all the other working mom minds as well! I was thinking today (my “day off”) I will not juggle my 2 year old on my knee as I look at emails while she yells CHOO CHOO MOMMY! Emails can wait till nap time, or better yet tomorrow….they will still be there! Having FUN right now, paying FULL attention right now makes everyone feel special.

Thanks for making us working moms feel normal!

    Cheers, Darlene

      Darlene,

I love it! Who ever came up with multi tasking was a fool. Focus your attention one place at a time and life is so much better.

Have fun with your 2 year old today!

Let 2026 Be The Year You Let Go Of What’s Possible

January 2, 2026

I don’t have a singular word for 2026. Instead I have a mantra: Let Go Of What’s Possible. How often do you set an intention, even a small one, and then instantly run it through the filter of what’s possible? That one word – possible – takes you down the rabbit hole of – are…
