It’s Okay To Want The Business
I’m all for not getting attached to the outcome, but let’s face it – sometimes we really want the business. And that’s okay.
I was in a mastermind last week and one of the agents was struggling with a listing appointment. The seller was blowing her off with “we need time to think things over after interviewing agents to decide on the best fit”. That’s never a good sign. It feels like “we don’t know how to tell you no today so we are going to ignore you and hope you go away”. The question was, how to respond? Wait to hear from them or take the initiative and reach out?
We can tell ourselves ‘the right people will be there and it will all work out’, but who gets to decide that? Do we hand all of the power over to our clients, or do we fight for what we want?
Rather than responding with: Sounds good, let me know if you have any questions, we crafted an email that stated:
If you need time to think about it then I haven’t provided enough clarity. I want to earn your business and with my system and track record, I know that I am the right person for the job. I would love to hop on a quick call with you to help provide that clarity.
That response is so much stronger and empowering.
Stop putting the power to decide in your clients hands. It’s okay to want the business and to say as much. For the record, it’s good to have another agent you can brainstorm with for this type of stuff. It can be hard to come up with a response when you are invested in the outcome.
We went through several variations before the final email was sent, but the overarching theme was that we are often too vague in our responses. We talk about experience and full service agents in round about ways.
It’s okay to say: I want to earn your business. I want to work with you. I am the best agent for the job.
There are times to be humble and this is not one of them.
Go after what you want.
To your success!

3 No Cost Ways To Attract Clients
This week we are going tactical. Good energy gets you in the right space to work with clients. But how do you actually find them? Here are my top 3: When we are slow, it’s easy for our confidence to dip, and when that happens we hibernate. Just like the flowers in spring, it’s time…
I See Your Doubt, A Message To My Younger Self
The year has officially begun. New listings are popping up everywhere. I haven’t sold anything yet. It’s common for my year to start a little slow. My business typically ramps up in April. In the past, my confidence would tank as I compared myself to others. This year is different. Some of this comes from…
The Neuroscience Behind Proof It’s Working
I’ve been talking a lot about finding Proof That Things Are Working in your daily life. Deliberately looking for moments where things are working out has a powerful effect on your energy, mindset, and the results you achieve. And it is backed by neuroscience. When we look for the good, it trains your brain what…
What To Do When Everyone Else Is Winning – And You Aren’t
First, I’d say – you’re being way too hard on yourself. It’s more likely that you’ve had wins, and missed them. This came up in my Proof It’s Working (PIW) group this week. What do you do when it feels like nothing is working, and you don’t see any wins? Step 1: Redefine what Proof…
Do Something Today Your Future Self With Thank You For
We assume that success comes in big waves. We search endlessly for the one thing that will unlock the door to whatever it is we want. But, that’s not how success works. Success is a series of actions. It’s showing up consistently. It’s doing what needs to be done. It’s taking care of yourself mentally,…
Reacting vs Creating: Which Mode Are You In?
How you show up and respond to life has a greater impact than we often realize. Are you constantly in reaction mode throughout the day? If so, you are essentially giving your power away. Letting outside forces determine what happens in your life, how you feel, and the impact things have. Or Do you wake…
3 Things That Make The Biggest Difference In My Business
The topic of the week has been goals and business planning. Nancy and I released a new podcast episode around goals. If your relationship with goal setting is ‘complicated’ this episode is for you. When it comes to business planning, I’m a big pictures person. Drilling down to small details stresses me out. Instead I…
Let 2026 Be The Year You Let Go Of What’s Possible
I don’t have a singular word for 2026. Instead I have a mantra: Let Go Of What’s Possible. How often do you set an intention, even a small one, and then instantly run it through the filter of what’s possible? That one word – possible – takes you down the rabbit hole of – are…
My Favorite New Years Traditions
I absolutely love New Years Eve and New Years Day. There is something special about flipping the page from one year to the next. It’s a time to honor what has happened, and lean into the joy and excitement of what’s to come. While we usually do something New Years Eve, I’m not a big…
3 Things I’m Doing Differently This Holiday Season
I love the last 2 weeks of the year – sorta. The holidays are beautiful and spazzy all at the same time. I love Christmas with the family, and getting together with friends. Yet December can leave me feeling depleted, and like I’m spinning in circles going no where. It’s an interesting time for a…
