Am I The Only One Who Feels Weird During The Holidays?
There are so many things I love about Christmas – time with family and friends, the light displays, decorating the tree with sentimental ornaments, baking endless batches of cookies, and so much more.
But there is an underlying stress that can make it tough to fully engage.
When you are in sales – there is a feeling of accomplishment for the year, but no external acknowledgement or celebration. That combined with lots of expenses for the holidays, a slow down in sales and a secret hope / fear that it works out again next year can make for some weird energy.
Yes, 26 years in real estate, and I still find myself wondering if it will all work again next year.
And so there is a push and pull of wanting to be present and celebrate the moment, but also feeling like it’s never too early to get things going for next year.
Truth be told, it’s why we started experiences vs stuff for the boys years ago and doing a trip during the holidays. It got us out of the house, which shifted the energy. Plus the beauty of traveling during the holidays is that you have to book so far in advance, that everything except meals are pretty much paid for when the time comes to actually travel.
But this year, we are staying home, and while there are parts of it that I love, I notice that it’s a lot more time to wonder what’s coming next.
Gary and I had a great conversation about it the other night. He’s in sales too and goes through the exact same roller coaster. We decided to book an afternoon next week for the two of us to spend time together with the intention of acknowledging our accomplishments for 2022 and feeling immense gratitude for them. It feels like a great way to put a bow on the year and have it feel complete before we fire up the engines for 2023.
So if you haven’t already, I encourage you to do something. Something more that journaling. Go for a walk with a friend, or out to dinner, but something with someone else with the intention of sharing and acknowledging all that you have accomplished this year. Because whether you met your goals or not, you have done great things, worthy of acknowledgement and celebration.
And if like me, you know you are going to be more than ready for an energy and mindset adjustment after the new year, mark your calendars. I’m doing an intro call for the Master Your Energy course on January 11th and the 6 week course starts January 18th. Sign up details for both will be out soon.
Until then, know that you’ve got this!
To your success!
