The Myth of January 1st

I was chatting with someone this week who mentioned that they were spending this week journaling, planning and deciding what they want to create in 2024. Sounds awesome! But their last comment got me – I know I should have done this sooner, but…
Sooner says who?
It got me thinking about all of the pressure we put on January 1st each year.
January 1st marks the turning of a page from 1 year to the next on the calendar. Other than that, it’s just like every other day – An opportunity to show up, be our best selves and live our life.
But somewhere along the way, we decided that January 1st is the predictor of your next 12 months. If you don’t have your goals defined, your word of the year picked, and your action plan perfectly scheduled, good luck. Maybe next year will be your year.
Wow! That’s a lot of pressure to put on one single day.
There are seasons and cycles to the year, and January naturally lends itself to a time of introspection, adjustments and actions that lay the foundation for future results. But it does not by any means determine your worth, ability or capacity.
I have seen people come out of the gates in January firing on all cylinders only to burn out by Valentines day. And I have seen others who seemed a little slow out of the gates have their best years ever.
So be gentle with yourself. Wherever you are is perfect. All that matters is that you take action and move forward.
You’ve got this!
To your success!
Nicole
PS: I held the first round of my monthly Mastermind this week and it was powerful! This is the second year that we have been meeting and it’s amazing to see the bond that has been built. We hold each other accountable, but even more than that – everyone shows up exactly where they are at. No posturing, no judgments, just the intent to grow and improve. We celebrate wins and hold space for each other in our struggles.
A few people have reached out asking if I will be opening another group. If it’s something you would be interested in, let me know. We meet at my house in Kirkland and the group will be capped at 8.

Closings, getting mutual on a contract, receiving a referral – there are lots of wins in real estate. Each one brings a shot of adrenaline that feels amazing.
