How Do You Cultivate Joy and Trust Long Term?
Thank you for the response to last weeks post about trust and things not being as expected. The entire trip was like that – I would sign up for a class or treatment thinking it was going to be one thing, and it ended up being something different, but better. It created a wonderful habit of looking forward to things not going as planned and finding joy in how they might end up better. As the weekend progressed I showed up more open, receptive and trusting.
It got me thinking, how can we do that on a daily basis with longer time horizons? It’s relatively easy to show up open and curious to a class that is 45 minutes long.
But what about the goals you set for the year? How do you maintain trust that you will get there even when an offer doesn’t come together, or they chose another agent? How do you trust that the right people are still out there and that it will all be okay?
This is a question I’ve been pondering for a few days now. I don’t have all of the answers, but this is what I’ve come up with so far:
- My morning routine matters. It gets me in the right frame of mind to move through the day.
- Being intentional with my thoughts. Most of us, me included, let our thoughts ‘happen’, but we have the ability to chose our thoughts and our thoughts create our reality.
- Surrounding myself with friends that uplift each other rather than complain
- Taking time to step back and recharge
- Looking back at past success as an affirmation of my ability to recreate success
