Everyone Has A Brand, What’s Yours?

What is branding

Branding is the shinny penny of business ownership. It’s beautiful, it makes us feel legitimate, and like we have arrived.

It’s also one of the biggest obstacles to getting your business up and running. I’ve had so many conversations about this lately that I couldn’t resist a blog post.

Your brand is:

How you CONSISTENTLY care for your clients

This could mean a lot of things, but let’s look at a couple that make the biggest impact – to your business:

  • How do you show up to appointments? Are you on time? Are you dressed professionally?
  • Do you listen more than you present?
  • Do you communicate clearly?
  • Are you there to educate and advocate for your clients?
  • How do you show up on social media? Is your intention to educate and inspire?
  • Are your listings well presented with staging, photography, and attention to detail?
  • Are you constantly learning and building your network of knowledge and resources?

How you do these things IS your brand.

There are a lot of agents who can answer yes to the questions above, but you had your own flavor, and that is what makes you unique.

***Note: These are ALL things that we do as a part of doing business. They do not cost anything or require months to produce.

Now let’s look at what we value as agents when it comes to branding:

  • Logos that we plaster everywhere
  • Branding colors
  • Fancy website

Are these things good to have? Absolutely? They certainly help with consistency, and they look impressive. But are the essential elements of a business? Not at all. I know many successful agents that don’t have these.

I’m not saying don’t do these things, but we place more emphasis on them than they deserve and often spend too much time on them at the wrong points of our business.

Know that from day 1, you have a brand. Your job is to develop it and find ways to stare it in a way that is meaningful to your clients. Always remember – it’s a contact sport. Success comes from connecting with others and finding ways to add value.

To your success!
