How to Get Your Clients to Work on Your Schedule

Setting boundaries with clients is one of the hardest things for agents to do.  It is a topic that always seems to come up whenever I am teaching a class or coaching with an agent.

How do you manage to get it all done so that you are not working endless nights and weekends?

Here are the 3 biggest issues I see agents having:

  • Their evenings and personal time are constantly interrupted with phone calls, meetings and negotiations
  • They are working 7 days a week and always on the verge of burnout
  • They can’t get anything done in the day because they are inundated with phone calls and emails.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Here are my 3 favorite ways to set boundaries and reclaim my time:

  • If you need to leave the office at 5pm and your clients want to do something today, tell them that you are available until 3pm.  Trust me, they will work with your schedule.  In fact, they are happy to do so; they just need to know what it is.  Telling them you are available until 3pm builds in a buffer of time for you in case things run long.
  • Mid-day Thursday, assess where you are for the week, what needs to be done and how you can fit it in on Friday. Most agents work weekends because they are not effective with their time during the week. Give yourself a day and a half to regroup and get it done.
  • Turn off your phone and leave it in another room.  Being constantly interrupted means that it takes 10 times longer to get anything done.  We are not required to be available instantly.  In fact, it can work against you as your clients start to think you don’t have anything else going on.

Give these three things a try and see how they help with reclaiming your schedule. We are our own worst enemies when it comes to this so know that, once you start putting it out there, it will be easier than you think.

Thanks for these great tips, Nicole! They work in any business, not just real estate. I think it would serve all business owners to set time boundaries so that they can have some personal time, family time, and free time!

      Hi Megan,

It’s so true. As business owners we are always afraid to say no and yet wonder why we end up burnt out and cranky. 🙂 Our clients are more than willing to honor our boundaries, in fact they prefer to, they just need to know what they are.

How Do You Want Summer To Feel?

June 19, 2026

Summer is often a season of expectations not meeting reality. I used to think my perfect summer meant iced tea on the patio while reading every day. For the record, that’s never happened. And for a while, I felt bad about it — like I was missing out, like I was doing summer wrong. Until…

Letting Go Of The Hustle Sounds Great, But You’ve Got a Business To Run

May 29, 2026

To be clear, I am 100% for less hustle, more flow, manifesting, receiving, regulating my nervous system, and letting things be easier. But somewhere between: “That sounds amazing” and “I’m a real estate agent – I need to generate clients and sell houses to earn an income” Things can get confusing. Because no matter how…

Thank you for being part of this community! I learned something beautiful and powerful last week. It was vulnerable to post about recalibrating, and being in the messy middle of grieving. Recalibrate In a Business That Runs 24/7

It happens to me every year about this time. The need to recalibrate. In a business that can run 24/7 – it’s easy to look up one day and realize, your batteries are drained and there’s no break in sight. Side note – It doesn’t have to be a 24/7 thing, but that’s a topic…

It’s Okay For Things To Be Different

May 1, 2026

I often find myself comparing things. I compare my business this year to years past.I compare my health and fitness to where I was 10 years ago.I compare how I show up and experience different life events. On the one hand – it makes perfect sense. Our brains crave predictability. It calms our nervous system.…

I Used To Be So Afraid Of This…

April 24, 2026

I used to dread client conversations. Especially pricing conversations with sellers in a softer market, like we are in right now. I was afraid of letting them down. It came up this week with a new listing. They bought at the height of the market in 2022. Today’s prices are lower than that. How do…

What If Your Income Didn’t Depend On The Market?

April 10, 2026

There are multiple markets occurring right now – in the same cities, on the same streets. Sellers are experiencing it one way. Buyers are experiencing it another. And agents? All over the board. Same market. Completely different results. So what’s the difference? What you believe. What you look for. And how you show up. Two…

Permission To Fall Apart: The Truth About Resetting Your Energy
