Metrics vs Joy

Prosper Mastermind

Ideally it’s both.

But somewhere between the joy of dreaming into new goals, and attaching metrics (ie the how) things can go from creative to confining.

In the ‘what if’ space – it’s easy to be creative. At this point the possibilities are endless.  There is no right or wrong, pass or fail. Actions and results are non linear. Meaning we know that if we connect with and positively impact others – business and success will come. I might call Mary and have a great conversation, but receive a referral from Julie. I don’t know why it works this way, but it does. At least for me. The more I connect with others from a place of joy, the more opportunities come in. But they are not always directly connected.

When we start looking at metrics – it’s success vs failure and time is always running out. We want direct correlations and assurances that we are doing the exact right thing at the right time. Well that my dear, is only evident in the rear view mirror. And so while metrics are valuable, they can send us into the cul de sac of indecision as we overthink things.

Which leads to the question – can we have both?

I believe the answer is yes.

It requires us to lean into Joy and back off on Metrics.

Joy comes from bringing more of you into everything that you do. Joy increases and decreases in direct correlation to the extent that we allow ourselves to integrate our passions into our daily lives.

For example, let’s say that you like to cook: Perhaps you host monthly cooking lessons, or book launch parties for your favorite cook books, or start a monthly recipe club. Not only will you connect to others that share the same passions (and need to buy and sell houses) but you will be the most radiant, vibrant version of yourself – which makes you a magnet for not only business, but awesome things in general.

Then, you dial back the Metrics. I know, it sounds counter intuitive. But I would venture that most people set their metrics goals too high, which causes them to be inconsistent. This leads to guilt and ultimately diss-engagement when they get to a point that it feels like you are too far behind to catch up. What if you committed to fewer contacts, but were more consistent and present?

It might feel scary to let go of old patterns, but new goals require new patterns. It is up to us to be brave enough to let go of one norm in order to create another.

To your success!
Nicole

It happens to me every year about this time. The need to recalibrate. In a business that can run 24/7 – it’s easy to look up one day and realize, your batteries are drained and there’s no break in sight. Side note – It doesn’t have to be a 24/7 thing, but that’s a topic…

It’s Okay For Things To Be Different

May 1, 2026

I often find myself comparing things. I Used To Be So Afraid Of This…

April 24, 2026

I used to dread client conversations. Especially pricing conversations with sellers in a softer market, like we are in right now. I was afraid of letting them down. It came up this week with a new listing. They bought at the height of the market in 2022. Today’s prices are lower than that. How do…

What If Your Income Didn’t Depend On The Market?

April 10, 2026

There are multiple markets occurring right now – in the same cities, on the same streets. Sellers are experiencing it one way. Buyers are experiencing it another. And agents? All over the board. Same market. Completely different results. So what’s the difference? What you believe. What you look for. And how you show up. Two…
