A Letter To My Younger Agent Self

Chatting with a new agent this week, she asked – what do I wish I had known as a new agent?

26 years in, that is easy:

  • It’s a contact sport
  • See as many houses as possible

This business, life really, is about connecting with others and finding ways to serve. It’s easy to get caught up in all sorts of things that make us feel and look busy, but don’t necessarily bring business. Spending 6 months building out the fanciest website is not as productive as connecting with 5 people a day for 6 months. Yes, the website is helpful, but nothing beats connection.

So block time to do your marketing, learn the contracts, etc, but make the focus of EVERY day to connect. From there take notes and follow up.

Connection combined with knowing the market, is the best way to not only launch your business, but stay in business.

It’s great that we can add so many pictures and videos to our listings. But we all know, there’s always something not in the pictures. Physically being in the houses gives you a better feel for neighborhoods and the properties themselves. So whether you are previewing or out showing buyers, make it a point to be in at least a few properties every single week.
